State Fair 2008
Well, we finally made it out to the State Fair on Friday night (10/17). Frank, Sydney, Liz, Rebecca and I had to deal with a bit of traffic and find numerous ways how to avoid I30, but we finally made it.
Upon arrival to the fair, I unfortunately discovered that my camera had absolutely no battery left. Thanks to me lending my camera to my niece Ruth and she not being considerate enough to bringing it back to me so I could charge it, I was disappointingly enough stuck at the fair of all places without a chance to take ANY pictures. Oh well, maybe next year!
Anyways, we did have fun though. Ate some funnel cake, had a corn dog, a couple of french fries I took from Rebecca and even half of a chicken gordita that Frank was kind enough to share.
As for rides are concerned, Frank and I were going to try and ride this thing somewhat like the Superman, but WAY smaller, and we were headed up to get on the ride when little Ms. Sydney decided to have a coniption - and off we come so that Liz wouldn't have to deal with her and being strewn all over the ground. So much for that.
Sydney, Frank and Rebecca got on this slide type ride. Basically you get in a sack and come down this HUGE slide with maybe like 6 little hills. They all said it was pretty fun.
Anyways, wish I had more pics to share, but of the 2 I took, one being of the famous ferris wheel, which mind you costs 12 tickets per person to ride, and the other, a pic of the group in front of the little dog looking statue from the King Tut exhibition, the only good pic was the one of the ferris wheel, so I'll share that one.
Yeay for fried food.
Oh, geesh, I almost forgot....it just so happened that on Friday night, of all people that could have been performing on the main stage, it was Ms. Blondie herself, Jessica Simpson.
I'll be brief.....that woman CANNOT keep a tune if her life depended on it. I wish I had again my camera to snap some pics of the faces on some people looking in total disbelief and shock at how horrible she was singing. Seriously someone needed to put her out of her misery.
Bet you a million bucks that's what's got our poor quarterback, Tony Romo, all out of whack - crazy woman must sing to him and just disorient him terribly before the last few games....she needs to shew away and quick before she costs me a couple hundred dollars on some bets.
Okay, that's it for the fair. Here is the ONE picture I got!

UT Longhorn Band!!!!!!!!
Every year for the TX OU game, the UT band has a practice at Richardson High School. The radio station I listen to, 1037litefm, and one of its dj's, Terry King, makes the better part of his broadcast on the Friday before the game, broadcasting live from Richardson HS to see the band practice for the big game.
I've listened the last 2 years and this year, I thought, what the heck, I need to make my way down there to watch the best band in the Southwest! I invited Liz to come along and on our way we went to watch them practice.
Let me tell you, there is something about a college football game that is like no NFL game, and I am certain the difference is the BAND! They just bring the crowd to life and keep it there throughout the game.
To some of the best memories of my college years at good 'ol UT. Hook 'Em Horns!!!!!
It's 12:56 p.m., and OU STILL SUCKS!

5 Years At COG!
Yesterday was our annual Employee Appreciation Day at the City of Garland. It seems like yesterday that I started working at the Landfill and now 5 years later, 3 departments later, I've made it to my first awards ceremony.
At the rate things are going, who knows if I'll ever be able to retire, but in the meantime, I must admit that the ride has been fun so far - can't complain! :)
Here are some pics of the day.
Oh, by the way, Liz received her 20 year award (do I smell retirement?), and Albert received his 15th....has come a long way from chasing mean dogs.

Sydney Poo or Sydney Chan?
Okay, so on Tuesday, Liz picked up Sydney for me from day care and watched her while I worked in Plano.
I had spoken with Erica earlier in the day and she had told me she would be making entomatadas for dinner and so when I got to their apartment, I was told to go ahead and serve myself since everyone had already eaten.
I was in the kitchen when Sydney comes up to me and as if showing off something, turns around and I immediately notice that she is sporting a very nice Dora backpack. Next thing out of my mouth is, "Sydney, that's a nice backpack." Then a chorus of voices asks, "Is that not her backpack?"
I was like no, and then asked who had bought it for her. Liz is like what do you mean it's not her backpack, doesn't she have a Dora one? I was like, yes she does, but her's is bigger and plus she did not take it to day care today since that one is used for school.
Liz and Rebecca both insisted it was hers all the while saying things in the backpack had Sydney's name on it. I'm standing there thinking, "show me!"
They turn it around to show me the name on the back and walaa, it reads NOT Sydney Colon but instead, Sydney Chan. Next they tell me her jacket was also in the bag and start opening it up to show me how it has her name and again, walaaa...Sydney Chan....mind you I did not send Sydney with a jacket that day so before they even showed me, I knew whatever jacket was in the bag was NOT Sydney Poo's. By this point I think they got the picture that this whole concoction of a very nice Dora backpack was not Sydney's but instead some poor girls, Sydney Chan's.
The funniest thing of all was that Liz kept saying, we wondered why Syney refused to take it off and said all the while she was acting like it was hers. My response which is seriously the honest truth was that my kiddo probably thought someone gave this to her and I'm not kidding, if that kid gets wind that anything is NEW, she's all for it - AND that would be the reason why she refused to take it off. Seriously, wouldn't you want to keep something new on and strut it all around?!?
Anyways, Ruth and Rebecca, but especially Ruth got a big kick out of this because they claim their mother, Liz, says she is perfect and they just were beyond themselves at the mistake that had occurred.
In all defense to Liz and anyone else that wasn't me because I would have known off the bat that was not her bag, the daycare did their part in messing up things as well. They put all of Sydney's...Colon's stuff in the wrong bag and never said or questioned anything.
All in all, it was pretty HILARIOUS!
The one thing we all agreed on was that thank goodness the right Sydney made it home!!!!!!

Fair Day 2008!
Monday, October 6th was Fair Day in GISD. The students get to have the day off and get a free pass to the State Fair in Fair Park. Thanks to some moisture, okay, more like pouring rain, we were unable to go to the Fair and instead had to come up with last minute changes to get some of the energy out of the kiddos.
We headed down to the place in Mesquite, America's Favorite Pizza Place, and spent the better part of the day there....eating, playing some games, and eating some more before we headed back home.
Here are some pics of the day.
